thrived out

We are thrived out! Or lets say it’s time to evolve in other directions, desirably something with a bit more regularity. A lot more really! Is it time to settle down? I think so!

We did it, after seven month of getting to know some very interesting places around Colombia, we finally arrived at the final destination: Brazília – The capital of Brazil. We are filled with lots of incredible and unforgettable memories and we survived it – all this sometimes pretty rough places with only a few itches and scratches – thank you universe or whomever there is to thank for! We are very appreciative to having had the chance to do it. But now it is enough living out of the suitcase. Laura said just yesterday, that she wants a place to call home again, I understand her fully. It’s tough living for month on end like gypsies, every few nights changing the bed, packing up your things again and move on. The dirt, the noise, the smells, the uneducated people… Isn’t it great when you really don’t wont to travel anymore? Only took me 40 years to satisfy that need of mine, one of the few hobbies I always pursued very eagerly.

So what is there left to say? Maybe some accumulated travel tips are in order?

There is no right and wrong traveling, if you prefer vacation style that’s ok, but maybe it’s not that rewarding. But it does not always has to be rock bottom, or as Laura likes to call it: the masochistic suffering travel style.

Travel when you can, the younger the better! The more intensive the better. Till you just can’t do it anymore. Well if you feel the urge of doing it, if not don’t worry about it!

It doesn’t matter how many countries you visit, it only matters if you truly enjoyed them. Maybe it does make sense not repeatedly go to the same place all your life. Try something new once in a while! After all: There are so many incredible places to discover.

Don’t worry too much about safety: If you don’t go out after dark, almost the whole world is more than safe enough!

Go to doctors whenever you worry about something, they are trustworthy all around the world!

Thank you AirBNB.com! This style of traveling opens up so many homes of people which till recently just didn’t existed. Choose places with only five stars and at least 20 reviews and you can be sure to have a great place to stay. Book early ahead and find the best AirBNBs.

Don’t trust Booking.com reviews, they stink! Don’t overpay just because it’s a 9plus review!

Book flights whenever possible around four month before, that’s about the cheapest it gets usually. Use kayak.com to find the best deals. Book multistop flights to safe some money, kiwi.com is my favorite.

Use new travel features, like extending stopovers for a few days, or upgrade your seat tickets when the airlines auction their free seats on higher travel classes: like this you get the chance to fly business for a fraction of the of the official price.

Take your time, basically double or triple the time people suggest. Galapagos in five days? No way, ten makes sense, even better 15 if you have the time.

Take pictures, but try to think what story you wanna tell with them. Do you just want to show the shiny side of things, or more like the ‚complete picture‘? Is every place just a background to have your face in the center, well then you haven’t really got it.

Write your adventures down when it’s fresh, it loses the energy of the moment pretty quick! And it’s really nice reading your thought and impressions from back in time, when you advanced to another phase of your life.

Be aware that you have possibly much more, than most of the people you encounter, and be generous. Tip well! Many people on this planet life with less than the minimum salaries of a few hundert USD, so if someone does a good service show gratitude.

Be open to everyone who’s not trying to sell you something and you will encounter openness and lots of heartwarming moments in the coldest and roughest places on this rock on which we are floating through space.
