- Well if there is anything remote close to the idea of paradise which I had in my head – this it is!
We arrived in Dominica by ferry, Tati does not like it, the rocking of the boat, not at all! After that we got picked up by Moses, our rastafari herbal practitioner host. We would stay for a week at his place, in the jungle – in the valley, at the white river.
It’s basic, very basic! But still has the minimum comfort, like electricity, shower and toilets. Even Wifi down at his place. Actually it’s more like theyr place, Ingmary and Moses.

They have it all: the clear river, to drink from, which flows into the white river, it’s called that because of the sulfur, which comes from further up, from the boiling lake. And in there garden they have bananas, plantains, cocunuts, yammes (and other rootveggies), chillies, pumpkins, papayas, guavas, mangos, salads, chinese cabbage, all kind of herbs and some greenstuff I never tried before like Morenga, which supposed to have a very high levels of vitamin C, calcium and proteins – another superfood! Ingmary cooked each day a incredible different delicious meal out of the garden, always starting with some different tea. Healthy and yummie!
We did some walks up and down the river and went also climbing down a rope-way to a black beach where there is a waterfall falling directly into the sea. The beautiful wildness of the nature wherever you look is just over overwhelming. Here you can buy land still cheap, here no one bothers you, here you have your peace, maybe even too much so, isolation pure. Here it’s safe, when the rest of the world should fall into chaos. Here you have different problems: Nine of the 16 active volcanoes in the carribean are situated in Dominica! Tropical storms, like Erika in 2015, are here not seldom.
No international airport also helps to develop the tourism industry only slowly, maybe in a more healthy pace. Only 70’000 people life on Dominica, not much happens here. No one bothers with Dominica.
Ya man, good? Ya man! Good man! They speak simplified, not wasting unnessesary breath: Can I buy fruits here? Round no, which I guess means: Arround here you can not buy fruits. Or like me trying get a coconut off the tree, but before I suceed I feel something stinging terribly my foot. Big bad black ants! I jump out of the bush, back into the street. A guy walks my way and askes: ants? Yes! Aggresive ants? Yes!! Ok…
I sat down at the mainroad of Delices. There is basically one electrical pole in the center of town. I sat there for 30 minutes – not one person or car passed. It’s quite, very quite!
