After ’surviving‘ the hurricane in Eleuthra, just a 100 miles south of Abaco and a little to the south east of Grand Bahama, where the term surviving was actually more accurate, we definitely had a honey moon to remember. We had just some tropical storm winds followed by a lot of rain. No electricity, tv, internet and running water for a few days. It was less scary than enoying to be cut off of everything and not having any information what so ever. I understood only afterwards that this models which determines the direction of the storm are just that. Actually the hurricane doesn’t care so much about them and can change entirely the direction as he pleases, so it was possibly more dangerous, than I thought it to be… A category 5 hurricane, that literally destroyed two island in the north of the Bahamas. It will take a lot of money and energy and time to rebuilt everything.
Apart from that: Eleuthra is incredibly pretty in every part of the island, has some pink beaches, almost daily fantastic sunsets, very friendly people and is very expensive. It was a very good choice, also to be there in low season, half price plus another 20% off plus we could get two hurricane days off on top of that ;)…
Now from the northwest’est‘ part of the Caribbean to the southeast’est‘ part (with a overnight in Jamaica) – yes by some definition Guyana and Suriname still count as part of the Caribbean! The city’s at the coast are supposedly still having that Caribbean character. We will find out in a few hours. When we finally arrive at Georgtown, capital of Guyana, which is one of the least visited country in South America. From there we plan to travel east to Suriname and French Guyana and from there south to the northern parts of Brasil, from where we will be heading ‚home‘ to Switzerland. Where after three years the title would be similar to the first entry on this blog: From ‚phase1: stepping into the unknown‘ it’s now ‚last phase: stepping back in to the know by now unknown’…
