Trinidad and Tobago

We had to prolonge the nightly layover in Trinidad on the way to Curaçao because of a flight cancelation. We ended up having two days here, so we decided to fly to Tobago, which is supposed to be much nicer and also safer.

The island is very small, i think we drove all mainroads within the two days. From Crown Point we drove to Charlotteville on the other end of the island: 1 hour and 15 minutes. Shitty car, to hit the brakes you needed almost to push through the metal, and then that other  thing with driving on the left side of the road: blinking always ends up with using the windscreen wipers. Great food, beautiful place called pirates bay with a guy playing reggea music and selling fresh juices and beer. Almost empty, Tobago doesn’t seem to have loads of tourists.

The second night we spend in a forrest cabine from Trevor. He’s like this ‚whitish‘ local, by that i mean he’s not black but has the mentally of here. Laydback and more intune with nature. On this islands they always have a small percentage of white people, but people who are actually also here for a few generations at least, I think he is the first we met of that kind… What he does is building houses on the pine hill top, which all the land seems to belong to him. When he’s done with one he builds the next one. The whole thing on a very high standard with all the amenities one could wish for (or not): WIFI, Sat TV, basic kitchen, but with oven, fridge, toaster and mixer; also powerplugs in every corner, more than in most normal houses!

So now today another two flights which brings us to our last leg on the carribean tour: Curaçao, dutch again, one of the three ABC islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao), just off the mainland of Venezuela.
