Panama City is very modern! It’s all about money here, not so many tourist. The sightseeing highlight is the panama canal, which generates a few billion usd each year and is toghether with the suez canal (aegypt) the most important ’shortcut‘ for containerships. It’s arround 100 years old and the americans took over the project at some point and paid the whole project. That’s why Panama is very american with for example all the fast food… everyone is telling me america can come back here any day and take over the canal if there would be the need for it. That’s possibly why they don’t like americans here too much? People are friendly here, but the city has a weird feel to it, like it lacks any history or culture. Which is funny as the spanish were here and it belonged to colombia. I guess the americans have a way to erase any culture? I know it’s a naive thought but I think more and more the world would be a better place without them…

 

It’s expensive compared to colombia and the pricetag always comes with another. 10% taxes and then sometimes with a fixed other 10% tip. Another thing you have to get used to…

The hotel we stayed in had a sauna and a gym. Amneties we really enjoyed! This rock-bottom on a shoe-string is defintly not mine anymore. Also it’s nice if you can cook yourself, it is another growing need. Panama city though was not so bad with vegetarian and vegan options… The chinese own all the tiendas and little food stores. It’s funny – they are all over the world, and also after generations never lose their language and don’t mix, why are some culture more resistant than others to ‚change‘?
